Privacy Policy
Draft for legal review. Not yet in effect.
Last updated: October 21, 2026. Version: 2026-10-draft-6.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Pursiva LLC ("Pursiva", "we", "us") collects through the Pursiva app and the website at pursivaprep.com (the "Service"), why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have.
Pursiva LLC, 5761 Groundsel Cir, Sarasota, FL 34238, is responsible for your information. For any privacy question or request, email support@pursivaprep.com.
The short version
- We collect what you and the student tell us so Pursiva can build the student's plan. We ask only for what the Service uses.
- We never sell personal information, and we never share it for advertising. Pursiva has no ads, no advertising trackers and no session recording.
- Pursiva uses AI providers to write plans, feedback and assessments. They process information only to do that work for us, and they may not use it to train their models.
- Each family's information is visible only to that family's account.
- You can download all of it or delete it at any time, from the Account page.
1. Who our users are
A Pursiva account is created by an adult: a parent or legal guardian of the student, or a student who is 18 or older (the "account holder"). Most of the information in an account is about the student, who is usually between 13 and 18. The Service is not for children under 13 (see section 8).
2. Information we collect
Account information. The account holder's name, email address and sign-in details, whether they are the student's parent or guardian or the student, and a record that they confirmed being 18 or older. To check age, we ask for the account holder's birth month and year at sign-up, but we do not store them; we store only that the check passed. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider, and Pursiva never sees them.
Student information you choose to add, which may include:
- name, birth month and year (used to confirm the student is old enough, and to know when they turn 18), grade, graduation year and high school;
- answers to the profile questions, such as interests, goals, values and experiences the student chooses to share;
- activities, responsibilities, achievements and progress updates;
- courses and grades, including those read from a report card you upload (we read the file to pick out the courses and then discard it; we do not keep the document);
- test scores, diagnostic and practice answers, and test plans;
- essays, every saved version of them, and essay ideas;
- the names, roles and subjects of teachers or counselors the student plans to ask for recommendation letters, and the moments the student wants them to know about;
- college preferences, lists, saved colleges, applications, deadlines and checklists;
- scholarships the student is tracking.
Sensitive information students choose to share. Essays, profile answers and other writing may mention things such as health, religion, family circumstances or other personal matters, because students write about their lives. We use this information only to provide the Service to that student (for example, to give feedback on an essay), never for advertising or to make inferences about the student, and we do not ask for it.
Family financial information (optional). If you use the Financial Aid tools: household income and savings as ranges, household size, aid eligibility, the yearly budget, and any aid offers you enter. Every question can be skipped.
Payment information. Payments are handled by Stripe. We receive and keep only what we need to manage your membership: a customer reference, the plan, the status of the subscription and payment dates. We never see or store your full card number.
Information created by the Service. Plans, recommendations, feedback, assessments and other content Pursiva generates for the student, and records of which version of these Terms and this Policy you accepted and when.
Technical information. Like most online services, our servers log the IP address, browser type, the pages and features requested, and errors, to keep the Service secure and working. These logs are kept for a limited time (see section 9).
Voice input. Where Pursiva offers voice input, your browser turns speech into text and gives Pursiva only the text; Pursiva never receives the audio. Some browsers do this on the device, and others, such as Google Chrome, send the audio to their maker's speech service to do it, under that company's own privacy policy.
Website visitors. If you join the waitlist or contact us from pursivaprep.com, we receive your email address and anything you write to us.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
Pursiva uses only what is strictly necessary to run the Service: storage in your browser that keeps you signed in and remembers simple preferences. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, analytics that profile you, or session recording. If that ever changes, we will update this Policy and ask for your permission first where the law requires it.
Browser privacy signals. Because we do not sell or share personal information for advertising, there is nothing for a Global Privacy Control or "Do Not Track" signal to opt you out of. If that ever changes, we will treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a valid request to opt out.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- provide the Service: build and update the student's plan, recommendations, feedback, practice and assessments, and show the student's work back to them;
- keep it safe: protect accounts, prevent misuse and fraud, and run automated safety checks on what is written in the Service to protect students' wellbeing and prevent abuse;
- support you when you contact us, and send emails about your account and membership, such as renewal and price notices and security alerts;
- remind you of what's next with a few short product emails, for example when setup or the profile is unfinished, when a plan is ready, or after a month away (at most one a week; turn them off in Account → Emails from Pursiva or with the link in any reminder);
- run the business: process payments, keep required records and comply with the law;
- improve the Service using statistics that do not identify any person or family.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use it for targeted advertising, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on anyone: Pursiva's suggestions are for the family to consider, not decisions about the student.
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or Brazil: we process information because it is necessary to provide the Service you asked for (contract), to meet legal obligations, for our legitimate interests in keeping the Service secure and improving it, and with your consent where we ask for it.
5. How AI is used with your information
Many Pursiva features use AI models to write output for the student. To do that, the relevant information (for example, profile answers for a plan, or an essay draft for feedback) is sent to our AI provider, which returns the result.
- Our AI providers act only as our service providers, under contracts that do not allow them to use your information to train their models and that limit how long they may keep it.
- Pursiva staff do not read a family's content, except when you ask us for help, when it is needed to investigate a security or safety problem, or when the law requires it.
- AI output can be wrong. Pages that show it say so, and our Terms explain how to use it.
6. Who we share information with
We share information only:
- with our service providers, who host, secure and run parts of the Service for us and may use the information only to do that. The current list, with what each one does and where, is on our Service providers page;
- when the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a student or others;
- if Pursiva is sold or merged, with the new owner, who must keep protecting it as this Policy describes, and we will tell you first;
- with your permission.
Pursiva never sends a student's information to colleges, high schools or anyone else on its own. If the student shares a document they printed or downloaded from Pursiva, that is their choice.
7. Where information is stored
Pursiva stores information in the United States. If you use Pursiva from another country, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, with the safeguards described in this Policy and, where required, legally recognized transfer mechanisms.
8. Children and teenagers
The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information about them. If we learn that we have, we will suspend the account within 24 hours and delete the information within 7 days. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, please email support@pursivaprep.com.
Information about students aged 13 to 17 is provided by, or with the permission of, the adult account holder, who can see, download, correct and delete it at any time. We never sell it and never use it for advertising.
9. How long we keep information
- While the membership is active, we keep the account and the student's information so Pursiva can work.
- After a membership ends, we keep the account for 12 months, so a family who returns does not lose the student's work. We email you 30 days before that time ends. After that, we delete it, unless you have asked us to delete it sooner.
- When you delete your account, we delete the account and all of the student's information within 30 days. Copies in our encrypted backups are not used for anything and are erased as those backups expire, within a further 35 days.
- A record of your agreement to the membership terms (your email address, the date and time, the version of the Terms and the renewal wording you were shown) is kept for 3 years from purchase, or 1 year after your membership ends if that is later, even if you delete your account. Auto-renewal laws require us to keep it.
- Payment and tax records are kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require (generally up to 7 years); they contain only membership and payment details, not the student's work.
- Server logs are kept for up to 90 days.
10. How we protect information
We use encryption in transit and at rest, access controls that let each family see only its own student, restricted staff access, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can:
- see and download your information: Account → Download my data;
- correct it, on the pages where it was entered or on the Account page;
- delete it: Account → Delete account, or email us;
- ask a question or make a request at support@pursivaprep.com.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to know what we collect and how we use it, to object to or restrict some uses, to receive your information in a portable format, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. This includes rights under US state privacy laws (such as California's), the EU and UK GDPR, Switzerland's data protection law and Brazil's LGPD. We will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.
We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we respond within the time the law requires (normally 30 days, or 45 days under some US state laws). An authorized agent may make a request for you with proof of your permission.
12. Changes to this Policy
If we make a significant change, we will tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect, except for a change the law requires or one needed for security, which we will announce as soon as we can. If we ever want to use information we already hold in a materially different way, we will ask for your agreement first. Each version has a date and a version number.
